South Dakota Office of School and Public Lands
Bryce Healy was born January 28, 1971 in Chamberlain, SD. He was raised on a diversified crop and livestock farm/ranch near Pukwana. Bryce graduated from Chamberlain High School. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Ag-Business from South Dakota State University. After graduating, Bryce served as the Marshall County Director of Equalization in Britton, SD.
Before moving to Pierre, Bryce was the Director of Field Services for the South Dakota Farmers Union. In that position, Healy oversaw rural development efforts with an intensive focus on the building and enhancement of producer-owned value-added agricultural processing cooperatives. In addition, Bryce's position included oversight for member services in which he worked closely with farmers and ranchers.
Commissioner Curt Johnson welcomes Healy's background in agriculture, management, and outreach as a great asset to the office. "I am pleased to have someone with Bryce's enthusiasm and work ethic on board."
Bryce and his family still own the farm/ranch operation which has been in the family for 100 years.
Commissioner Johnson hired Healy in hopes of choosing his successor. The Land Commissioner's position is a statewide elected Constitutional office in South Dakota. Curt Johnson is eligible to serve one more four-year term that will expire in 2002. "I know that Healy will continue to work on the goals and objectives I have set forth for the office in the last eight years. He's my pick," Johnson added.
